It’s the time of year when “Best Book" lists begin to
appear. Everyone, from The New York Times to NPR, offers suggestions. And librarians, including the staff at Lake Forest Library, will not be left behind. So, if you like to read “out of this
world” fiction, Lake Forest Library has two sets of recommendations for you: Science Fiction 2013 and Fantasy 2013.
Science Fiction is experiencing renewed popularity and this year's titles are diverse and plentiful. Our list includes well-known authors such as
Iain Banks, Ben Bova and Terry Pratchett. First-time authors like Samantha
Shannon, author of The Bone Season, and Michael J. Martinez, author of The Daedalus Incident, also made the cut.
Fantasy lovers should try Helene Wecker’s surprise
bestseller The Golem and the Jinni, and Bee Ridgway’s The River of No Return. Also look for new books by veterans Stephen Donaldson,
Chuck Palahniuk and Robert Jordan.
All together there are 23 recommendations for your perusal. But
