Robert Crais' mysteries starring Elvis Cole. The violence is a little more graphic in this series and the personal lives of
the characters are revealed only slowly, but fans will enjoy Cole's eccentricities. Start with The Monkey's Raincoat if you are interested in the Elvis Pike series.
Crais also started a spin off series from the Elvis Cole books, starring Joe Pike, a protagonist from the Cole books.
