Family Reading Night November 17, 2017
November 17 is Family Reading Night, a statewide event
sponsored by Illinois Reads and the Illinois Center for the Book. Whether your family reads together or on their own, we have suggestions for you.
The Illinois Reads committee has selected 6 books for various
age groups - picture books to adult novels - from authors who all have a connection to
Chicagoland. Favorite picture books such
as Good Night Gorilla, My Grandfather’s Coat, or Winnie: the True Story of the Bear Who Inspired Winnie-the-Pooh are bedtime naturals.
Older readers can solve a mystery along with The Detective’s Assistant, set in mid-19th century Chicago.
Do you have a reader who thinks real life is stranger than fiction? Hand that person Fantastic Fugitives, which delves into the past of famous fugitives.
If you're looking for a book both teens and adults will enjoy, try the award-winning Bone Gap.
Here’s a complete list of titles selected.

Family Reading Night
would be a great time to start a new family read aloud. We have Read Aloud suggestions on our website under Children’s Reading Lists. You also might try these new titles: Teddy & Co., When the Sea Turned to Silver or Missy Piggle-Wiggle and the Whatever Cure.
If you and yours like to share, photos from
your Family Reading Night event showing families reading together, may be
submitted for consideration in future Illinois State Library publications.
